History

The Utah Valley Handbell Choir was formed in 1993 by Karen Eskew-Wyllie, whose dedication and expertise laid the foundation for our ensemble. For 27 years, Karen directed the choir, teaching and inspiring countless musicians in Utah County and across the state. Her profound passion for handbells and her commitment to fostering musical talent have been invaluable gifts to our community, creating an enduring legacy that continues to influence the choir’s mission today.

Karen envisioned a choir that was independent and accessible, distinct from the many ensembles tethered to churches or schools. This philosophy has shaped the Utah Valley Handbell Choir into a vibrant community group, welcoming members from all walks of life. Our independence remains one of our greatest strengths, allowing us to cultivate a diverse membership and perform a wide range of repertoire that resonates with audiences from all backgrounds.

Under Karen’s leadership, the choir produced three recordings: Bells of Christmas, Inspire-Ring Hymns, and Our Christmas Favorites. These albums not only showcase the exceptional talent within the choir but also serve as a testament to our dedication to handbell music. Each recording captures the unique sound and artistry that has become synonymous with the Utah Valley Handbell Choir.

Currently, the choir is under the direction of Dr. Glen Hicks, who brings a fresh perspective and continued passion for handbell ringing. Under his guidance, we look forward to further expanding our repertoire and outreach, ensuring that the Utah Valley Handbell Choir remains a relevant and dynamic presence in the community for years to come.
