The Utah Valley Handbell Choir was founded by Karen Eskew-Wyllie, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for the ensemble. She directed the choir for 27 years, inspiring countless musicians and helping establish a strong tradition of musical excellence throughout Utah County and beyond.
Karen imagined a choir that was independent from churches and schools, creating a welcoming community ensemble open to musicians from many backgrounds. That independence remains central to our identity and continues to shape our diverse membership and broad repertoire.
During Karen’s tenure, the choir recorded three albums: Bells of Christmas, Inspire-Ring Hymns, and Our Christmas Favorites. These recordings preserve an important part of our story and reflect the ensemble’s long-standing commitment to quality performance.
About Handbells
Handbell ringing has roots in English bell traditions and has grown into a distinctive musical art form enjoyed in concerts, community ensembles, and worship settings. Its expressive sound and collaborative nature make it both accessible and inspiring.
Today
The Utah Valley Handbell Choir is now under the direction of Dr. Glen Hicks, who brings continued passion and fresh energy to the ensemble. We look forward to expanding our repertoire, deepening our outreach, and continuing to share handbell music with audiences for years to come.
