History

The Utah Valley Handbell Choir was founded in 1993 by Karen Eskew-Wyllie. Karen directed the group for 27 years, teaching and inspiring musicians in Utah County and throughout the state. Her expertise and passion for handbells were gifts to our community. Unlike many other choirs that are supported by churches or schools, it was very important to Karen that membership in the UVHC should not be tethered to any other organization. To this day, the choir remains an independent community group, and we value this as one of our greatest strengths.

Karen and her husband, Neil, retired to Florida in 2020, but they continue to be our greatest support, allowing us the use of their 4-octave set of Malmark handbells and 3-octave set of Malmark chimes.
